Shweta Sekhon, who was reigned the Miss Universe Malaysia 2019, graced a sharing session with students at HELP University on 23rd October advocating self-confidence and self-love in her awareness campaign #YourBodyYourSay. At the sharing session, Shweta highlighted the importance of building one’s own self-confidence, practicing self-love and embracing one’s real self. Her key messages touched upon the importance of mental strength, self-acceptance and self-confidence in one’s appearance, and staying healthy. This was followed by a catwalk challenge interactive session with the audience.

Also at the event was a sharing session by one of the partners for this campaign, Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd (Digi) on safer internet experience that shared some tips and advice on the different actions that one can take to tackle body shaming, a common form of cyberbullying.

For the final part of the event, Joyce Ooi, Marketing Director of Neubodi conducted a ‘bralogy’ session where she shared useful information on breast health, the importance of wearing the right bra, and a guide on selecting the correct bra to suit one’s shape and style. Participants also got an in-depth insight into the effects of wearing the wrong bra, as well as how to care for bras.

Shweta said, “I came up with this campaign because I realised how most teenagers have low self-confidence when it comes to their own appearances or bodies, which in turn affect them mentally and emotionally. It’s a problem that we are all well aware off but tend not to voice out. As someone
who was once a victim of the very same issue, I feel the need to advocate the importance of being confidently beautiful with who you are, and staying on the right track to being healthy.”

With this advocacy, Shweta hopes to build a much more positive society who is not fearful of accepting their true and real, authentic self. On top of it, she wishes that everyone will lead a balanced lifestyle, and to get yourself checked out medically because staying healthy is just as important.

The #YourBodyYourSay awareness campaign is held in collaboration with HELP University, and is supported by partners Digi, Neubodi and Dove.
