On the evening of 30 June 2025, HELP University’s law students traded lecture halls for linen tablecloths as they gathered at the elegant Sage Restaurant and Wine Bar for Law Dining 2025. This special event was organised as part of their Event Management subject (MPU3432) and offered students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in legal tradition.

Inspired by the formal dinners held at the English Inns of Court, the evening allowed students to experience a time-honoured legal custom in a refined and memorable setting. It was more than just a fine dining experience. It was a celebration of learning, connection, and the shared journey of becoming a lawyer.

The event brought together final-year students from the HELP University Law (HULLB) degree programme, students from the UK Degree Transfer Programme, alumni, and members of the university leadership. It was a warm and meaningful gathering that bridged generations of HELP’s legal community and celebrated their shared passion for the law.

The evening’s Guest of Honour was Tan Sri Dato’ V C George, an esteemed figure in Malaysia’s legal profession. Tan Sri Dato’ has served as President of the Malaysian Bar, a High Court and Court of Appeal Judge, and is currently a consultant. He is also the recipient of the Malaysian Bar’s 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award and the author of a book titled “Some Stories I Have Told and Some That I Haven’t,” which was published in 2020. During the event, he shared heartfelt reflections and words of wisdom with the students. To the audience’s delight, he even performed a song, making the night even more memorable.

The event was also attended by HELP University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Liew Teik Kooi, who delivered an inspiring opening speech. Ms Kathleen Nunis, the Acting Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Law, was also present and expressed her pride in the students’ efforts and growth.

Adding to the occasion were HELP Law alumni Mr Ravinder Singh Dhaliwal and Mr Ivanpal Singh Grewal. Both spoke about their professional journeys and offered guidance to the students as they prepared to step into the legal field. Mr Ivanpal also delivered the official toast of the evening, celebrating the resilience and ambition of the next generation of legal professionals.

From start to finish, the atmosphere was filled with warmth, conversation, and laughter. Law Dining 2025 was not only an elegant evening but also a powerful reminder of what it means to study and practise law. It was a celebration of community, mentorship, and tradition, and it will certainly be remembered by all who attended.
