JOB FUNCTION:

The role is responsible for driving the University’s digital learning strategy, innovation in teaching and learning, and the integration of instructional design and educational technologies to enhance student experience, learning outcomes, and institutional scalability.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Strategic Leadership in Digital Learning

a)     Lead the development and implementation of the University’s digital learning and educational technology strategy

b)     Identify and drive adoption of innovative learning models (blended, online, microlearning, AI-enabled learning)

c)     Align digital learning initiatives with institutional goals and national higher education priorities

2. Instructional Design & Learning Experience

a)     Provide leadership in instructional design frameworks (e.g. OBE, learner-centred design, experiential learning)

b)     Work with faculties to design, transform, and enhance course delivery

c)     Ensure learning materials are:

  • Engaging
  • Pedagogically sound
  • Digitally optimised

3. Technology Integration & Innovation

a)     Evaluate and implement learning technologies (LMS, AI tools, analytics platforms, content tools)

b)     Drive experimentation with emerging technologies (AI, immersive learning, adaptive learning)

c)     Ensure cost-effective and scalable adoption of technologies

4. Faculty Engagement & Capability Building

a)     Train and support academic staff in:

·       Digital pedagogy

·       Instructional design

·       Use of educational technologies

b)     Build a culture of innovation in teaching and learning

5. Quality Assurance & Compliance

a)     Ensure alignment with:

·       Institutional QA standards

·       Regulatory requirements (e.g. MQA, ODL standards)

b)     Support audit readiness (ODL, APEL, programme accreditation)

6. Data-Driven Learning Enhancement

a)     Use learning analytics to improve:

·       Student engagement

·       Learning outcomes

·       Course design

b)     Establish feedback loops (student experience, usability)

7. Content Development & Governance

  • Oversee development of high-quality digital learning materials
  • Ensure consistency in:
  • Instructional design
  • Language and presentation
  • Academic standards

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

a)     Master’s or PhD in:

·       Education / Instructional Design / Educational Technology / Related field

b)     Minimum 5–10 years experience in:

·       Digital learning / ODL / instructional design

·       Higher education or professional learning environments

c)     Experience in:

·       LMS platforms (e.g. Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard etc)

·       Online/blended programme development

·       Faculty training and engagement
