POSITION SUMMARY
The Department of Accounting & Finance is seeking a suitably qualified academic with expertise in Accounting and Finance to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, curriculum development, research, and academic leadership. The successful candidate should possess strong teaching capabilities in accounting disciplines as well as selected finance-related courses aligned with professional accounting body requirements, particularly ACCA-oriented subjects such as Financial Management and introductory finance courses.
The candidate is also expected to contribute to research, student supervision, industry engagement, programme quality assurance, and academic administration in line with university and regulatory expectations.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teaching & Learning
- Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Accounting and related disciplines.
- Teach finance-related courses relevant to business and professional accounting programmes
- Prepare lesson plans, teaching materials, assessments, and learning resources aligned with programme learning outcomes and accreditation standards.
- Deliver lectures, tutorials, workshops, consultations, and online/hybrid learning activities effectively.
- Set, moderate, invigilate, and mark assessments and examinations in accordance with university policies and academic standards.
- Provide academic guidance, mentoring, and consultation to students.
- Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate student research projects/dissertations where appropriate.
Curriculum & Academic Quality
- Participate in curriculum review, programme enhancement, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to accreditation and quality assurance exercises involving MQA, professional bodies, and internal audits.
- Ensure teaching delivery and assessment practices comply with university policies and regulatory requirements.
- Develop and update course files, teaching documentation, and learning materials regularly.
Research & Scholarly Activities
- Conduct research and scholarly activities in Accounting, Finance, or related fields.
- Publish research outputs in reputable journals and/or conference proceedings.
- Present papers at academic conferences, seminars, or professional events.
- Seek opportunities for industry collaboration, consultancy, grants, and applied research initiatives.
Academic Leadership & Service
- Participate actively in departmental, faculty, and university committees and meetings.
- Support student recruitment activities, open days, exhibitions, and marketing initiatives when required.
- Contribute to academic administration, moderation, peer review, and institutional initiatives.
- Provide mentorship to junior academics where applicable (particularly for Associate Professor level candidates).
- Maintain engagement with industry and professional accounting bodies to ensure curriculum relevance and graduate employability.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND JOB COMPETENCIES
Minimum Academic Qualifications
- A Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline from a recognised university is required.
- A PhD in Accounting, Finance, or related field will be an added advantage and is preferred for Associate Professor level appointment.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA Australia, CIMA, ICAEW, MICPA, or equivalent will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum:
- Senior Lecturer: At least 5 years of tertiary teaching experience.
- Associate Professor: Significant academic experience with evidence of leadership, research, and postgraduate supervision.
- Experience teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
- Ability to teach accounting courses and finance-related subjects relevant to ACCA or business programmes.
- Experience in supervising undergraduate and/or postgraduate research projects/dissertations.
- Evidence of research publications and scholarly contributions.
- Experience with curriculum development and quality assurance exercises is preferred.
- Industry experience in accounting, audit, taxation, finance, or related areas will be an added advantage.
