HELP University is proud to announce its significant role as a co-organiser of the CULTOUR Asia 2025 Challenge in partnership with the Malaysia-China Cultural Tourism Association and Zhejiang International Studies University (ZISU).

In addition, HELP University is also co-organising the International Forum 2025 titled “Sustainable Change Makers: The Future of Culture, the Culture of the Future,” which brings together leading minds to explore innovative pathways for cultural sustainability. These initiatives reflect our strong commitment to fostering international collaboration and thought leadership in this vital sector.

The collaboration commenced on July 7th with a student mobility program that welcomed 11 ZISU students to the HELP University campus. Their visit was more than just an exchange; it was an immersive, hands-on experience designed to deepen their understanding of cultural tourism and research methodologies.

The ZISU students attended an engaging research exchange workshop, expertly led by HELP University’s Associate Professor Dr. Alice Lim Soo Mang and Senior Lecturer Mr. Muhamad Syahir bin Muhamad Stamam. They then participated in the “Heritage Interpretation” class, a subject in the Bachelor of Tourism Management (Honours) taught by Senior Lecturer Ms. Rajesvare A/P K.D. Rada. Additionally, the students engaged in hands-on experiences that offered practical insights into popular topics in cultural tourism today. Discussions and research concentrated on key areas such as sustainable development in heritage districts, comparing challenges and opportunities in iconic locations like Hangzhou, China, and Melaka, Malaysia. They explored fascinating socio-cultural aspects, including international tourist food preferences at bustling Jonker Street and the rich, intricate tapestry of Nyonya culture. These sessions were carefully designed to provide a real-world, applied learning environment, encouraging students to think critically and creatively.

Students were not only encouraged to conduct research but also to refine their findings to compete for the Best Research Award. This competitive element is designed to promote academic excellence, inspire innovative thinking, and foster a deeper cross-cultural understanding.

Beyond the immediate research endeavors, HELP University is also committed to guiding the future academic journeys of these students with a comprehensive briefing on HELP University’s postgraduate programs by Associate Professor Dr. Nicholas Lum Yew Choe, offering insights into advanced study opportunities.

Looking ahead, Associate Professor Dr. Alice Lim Soo Mang will also be delivering a keynote address at the International Forum 2025 at Sunway University on 11th July, titled “Cultivating Sustainable Change Makers at HELP University”.  Her presentation will articulate HELP University’s philosophy and successful strategies in nurturing individuals who are not only knowledgeable but also equipped to drive meaningful, positive change in the cultural and tourism landscapes.

This strategic alliance is poised to bring significant long-term benefits. A tangible outcome of the collaboration will be the development of co-authored academic publications between HELP University and ZISU students and faculty. These joint publications will not only contribute new knowledge to the field but also significantly strengthen international research partnerships, fostering a global network of scholars dedicated to the sustainable future of culture and tourism.

HELP University remains dedicated to providing world-class education and fostering impactful collaborations that shape future leaders and advance critical fields like cultural tourism on a global scale.
