The Pearson Edexcel International Advanced Level (IAL) is a renowned and widely accepted qualification for university admission around the world. It gives students the chance to develop intellectually as they explore their chosen subjects in great depth.

The HELP Academy (HA), part of the HELP Group of educational enterprises, has achieved an enviable record in offering the IAL option with great success over the years. One of the accolades comes from the Edexcel World Conference in Hong Kong declared HA the “Best and Biggest Edexcel A-Levels Centre in the World”.

The Edexcel International Advanced Level is a top ranked exam board and is recognised by leading universities and employers worldwide. It is a popular choice as it is a modular system which allows students to resit specific subjects to improve the grades without having to repeat the entire exam.

The HELP Academy is well-equipped to nurture A-Level students to achieve excellence in their studies.

It has state-of-the-art Curies Science Labs which have been acclaimed by the Edexcel A-Levels Chief Examiner from UK to be among the best in the world.

Its Getting The Edge (GTE) programme cultivates leadership and organisational skills among students by assigning them to work with the most experienced lecturers on award winning science projects. This has enabled the A-Levels department to win the Malaysian Toray Science Foundation Award for a record-breaking 19 times.

Students are provided a unique pastoral care programme under which each student is assigned to a mentor-lecturer who monitors and guides him on academic performance and assists with applications for university admission. Applying to top universities is a rigorous process and the department has enabled students to enter top universities like Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, London School of Economics, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Princeton and Chicago.

The A-Levels department of the HELP Academy is a vibrant centre of study which provides ample opportunities for nurturing personal and intellectual skills.

There are speech, drama and writing workshops which hone skills of presentation, speaking and critical thinking. Successful admission to good universities requires students to think critically, form their own opinions and present their arguments effectively and convincingly in their application forms.

Multimedia workshops (comprising activities like photography, videography, video editing, Microsoft Office, online platform creation) teach good multimedia skills for assignments, presentations and coursework. These have become essential life-skills with wide application in leisure and recreation, careers and in the workplace.

The A-Level department’s Mathematics workshops are a benchmark of its superiority in maths teaching. Tapping into the expertise of lecturers with an average of 20 years of experience, it has been conducting workshops with themes like Shortcut Methods for Add Maths, Maths Challenge and Enhancement as well as the department’s signature event the Annual Maths Marathon. The department’s students also receive two hours of special coaching each week to enable them to master special maths techniques beyond the scope of class texts and standard curricula, to improve speed and accuracy in solving problems.

The department’s record of success stories attest to the efficacy of its teaching and nurturing methods.

Not only have its students gained admission to the world’s most prestigious universities and won scholarships from institutions like Bank Negara, JPA, Singapore Government Investment Corporation, Maybank, Shell, Sime Darby and ASEAN; their subsequent academic performance at those universities have drawn praise and recognition for the department.

One such testimony is from Professor Dame Carol Black, the Principal of Newnham College, Cambridge. Referring to the First Class Honours equivalent results attained by Melissa Chee and Grace Ng in their Chemical Engineering and Natural Sciences Tripos, Prof Black said: “Much of the credit for this must go to the education they received before coming to Cambridge. We are always keen to receive applications from students of such calibre”.

Apart from the Edexcel IAL, the department also offers the Cambridge International Examinations (CIE), another prestigious A-Levels option accepted worldwide for university admission and employment.
