Stephen Wu Ghee Kean
Stephen Wu started his career at HELP University (previously known as HELP Institute/HELP University College) in 1994 as a lecturer and he has more than 30 years of experience in private higher education. He has assumed many roles in the last 30 years starting out as an academic staff and then a manager and now he is the Pro Vice-Chancellor (International)/Vice-President and Dean of Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting at HELP University.
He has travelled extensively to Europe, Asia, America and Australia promoting HELP University’s Global profile, learning new educational models, negotiating new educational partnerships and setting and implementing HELP University’s programs with colleges and universities in Vietnam, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, China etc.
He and his team have made significant contributions to the Vietnam National University private education initiatives where they have played a significant role in the setting up of an International School and subsequently the International University of the Vietnam National University. Currently, more than 1000 students are studying various HELP University’s programs in Hanoi and Ho Chih Minh City.
He has also set up various education projects with Chinese universities which include Beijing Jiaotong University, Beijing Foreign Studies University. Tongji University, Shanghai International Studies University, Guangxi Minzu University, North China University of Science & Technology, Sichuan International Studies University, Fuzhou University and Guilin University of Science & Technology just to name a few.
He has also undertaken many consultancy projects at the national and international level. Recently, he is leading a team to study the training needs of the employees in the hospitality industry in Penang, a project directed by the Penang State Government. He has also carried out many feasibility studies on the implementation of educational co-operations in Asia.
The Faculty of Business, Economics and Accounting at HELP University under his leadership saw good growth and expansion. It is one of the leading business schools in Malaysia and Asia is a preferred partner of many top universities and professional bodies in the world and its graduates are often headhunted by many multinational companies.
He is self-driven, results-oriented person with a positive outlook, and a clear focus on high quality but affordable education with business profit. He is a natural forward planner who critically assesses his own performance and is comfortable dealing with senior executives. He is a person with little time for bureaucracy and archaic business ways. He also has a keen interest in corporate strategy and warfare and a strong believer of providing equal educational opportunities to all.
