Mark’s academic journey began at the University of London, United Kingdom, where he earned his LLB (Hons) degree in 1992. He continued his pursuit of legal knowledge by obtaining a Certificate in Legal Practice (CLP) from LPQB, Malaysia, in 1993, before further enhancing his expertise with an LLM degree from the University of Malaya, Malaysia, in 2004. 

His professional journey includes a five-year tenure as an Advocate and Solicitor from 1995 to 2000, where he honed his skills and garnered invaluable experience in legal practice. Although not in practice today, Mark’s understanding of legal intricacies is evident through his extensive body of work and scholarly pursuits. 

Mark’s dedication to the legal profession is exemplified by his involvement in committees such as the Bar Council Ad Hoc Committee for the Common Bar Course in 2012 and his role as an organizing member of LAWASIA’S Constitutional and Rule of Law Conference in 2019. 

Mark’s influence transcends borders, as evidenced by his prolific scholarship and contributions to legal literature. His research interests encompass diverse areas of law, including land law, constitutional law, and judicial appointments. Mark has presented his findings at numerous national and international conferences, shedding light on pressing legal issues and advocating for meaningful reforms. 

Mark’s insights are not confined to academia; he actively engages with the public through thought-provoking opinion pieces in articles (which include the Edge Weekly, Malaysiakini, and MalayMail), offering informed perspectives on contemporary legal issues. His extensive publication record includes annotated statutes and articles in legal journals like the University Malaya’s Journal of Malaysian and Comparative Law, INSAF- The Journal of the Malaysian Bar, the Malayan Law Journal(MLJ), and The Commonwealth Lawyer to name some. His numerous publications reflect his commitment to legal scholarship and public discourse. 

Mark’s influence extends to nurturing the next generation of legal minds, as evident from his supervision of scholarly papers by aspiring law students. Furthermore, his contributions have been recognized globally, as demonstrated by his stint as a visiting scholar at the University of Leeds in 2019. 

Mark’s career is a testament to his unwavering dedication to the legal profession, his commitment to scholarly inquiry, and his passion for effecting positive change in society.
