Associate Professor

Dr. Eugene Yu Jin Tee is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology. He teaches courses on and conducts research in the field of emotions and positive psychology. Dr Tee earned his PhD in Management from the University of Queensland, Australia, and his Master of Applied Positive Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania, United States. He has published his research in peer-reviewed academic journals including The Leadership Quarterly, The Asian Journal of Social Psychology, Journal of Affective Disorders, and The International Journal of Wellbeing. He is a member of the editorial board for The Asian Journal of Social Psychology and the Journal of Organizational Behavior. Throughout his academic career, Dr Tee has supervised more than 350 undergraduate thesis students and more than 30 postgraduate research projects related to emotions across counselling, clinical, coaching, and managerial psychology programs.

Dr Tee has delivered presentations internationally at scientific conferences on topics related to emotions, emotional intelligence, and positive psychology and locally as part of science communication outreach initiatives. He is a TEDx speaker and features regularly on BFM’s The Big Picture. He has also appeared in print media such as the New Straits Times, The Edge, and Malaysia Tatler. Dr. Tee also conducts corporate training sessions for organizations and is a Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF) certified trainer. His former clients include JP Morgan, The New Zealand High Commission, B.Braun, Lazada, Great Eastern Life, Petronas, MSIG, Malaysiakini, and World Vision. Dr. Tee is a member of the International Society for Research on Emotion (ISRE), the Asian Association for Social Psychology (AASP), the Academy of Management (AoM), and The International Positive Psychology Association (IPPA). He is the founder of Emotivity, a web portal featuring research on emotions and resources on developing emotional intelligence (https://emotivity.my/). Dr Tee is the author and co-author of three books – Of Bromances and Biting Cute Babies, Mindfulness and Emotions, and The Science of Feelings. His latest book, The Science of Feelings, was awarded by the National Book Council as one of the 50 Best Malaysian Titles for International Rights 2021/2022.
