Dr. Malini Ramanan
Dr. Ramanan Malini is a law grad from Madras University with an MA in Sociology from Annamalai University. She is an Indian citizen permanently residing in Malaysia.
She has a PhD in Development and Social Change from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. Dr. Malini is an ethnographer deeply interested in communal identity formation and dedicated to exploring its intricacies through comprehensive qualitative methods such as phenomenology, grounded theory, narrative/content analysis and so on.
Her doctoral thesis on the Telugu Diaspora in Malaysia was recently published as a book titled, Malaysian Telugus: Untold Stories of Andhra Pioneers (2023).
Dr. Malini has also obtained her second MA in International Criminology from the University of Sheffield in the UK.
Dr. Malini is a Senior lecturer at the ELM Grad School, playing a supervisory role, and guiding post-grad students at the Institute of Crime and Criminology, HELP University.
Dr. Malini’s research interests include sociology and criminology, ethnicity, ethnic identity & community.
