The University of Maine, USA, and HELP University, Malaysia, have taken a significant step forward by unveiling their transformative partnership. The strategic alliance between these prestigious higher education institutions is set to create new academic experiences and to expand global educational opportunities.
This innovative collaboration, between the University of Maine with an ASEAN institution, focuses on expanding business and psychology educational opportunities from pre-college to undergraduate to MBA graduate levels. It integrates credit transfer, micro-credentials, and a broad spectrum of short courses, designed to equip students with the comprehensive skills and knowledge required for success in today’s global market.
Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost, Professor John Volin, at the University of Maine, highlighted the significance of this alliance: “Our collaborative partnership with HELP University unlocks important opportunities for our students and faculty by fostering a deeper understanding of Southeast Asia’s dynamic economies and cultures and enhancing global competencies.”
Fascinated by Malaysia’s multicultural society and HELP University’s cosmopolitan culture, Provost Volin said that “exposing our U.S. students to Malaysia’s rich cultural diversity and the cosmopolitan culture of HELP University is an integral part of our vision for global reach and transformation. Studying in Malaysia would offer our students an exceptional global perspective.”
A unique component of this partnership is its commitment to enhancing the quality of learning and teaching through the use of AI-related tools. This fusion of advanced technology and pedagogical methods is designed to support both staff and students by providing a dynamic, engaging, and effective learning environment.
Recognizing the U.S. as a smart technology-driven nation and a key player in the creative economy, and with Asia also undergoing a transformation into a creative economy, this partnership is poised to contribute to and influence these new industries. The collaboration will leverage the strengths of both regions, stimulating innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.
In response to the growing American business interests in Malaysia and the ASEAN region, this alliance is designed to foster academic collaborations, deepen cultural understanding, and stimulate business development.
The partnership also places high priority on staff development and training, focusing on advanced pedagogical strategies, the use of digital education tools, postgraduate supervision, and research methodology. This initiative will enable faculty members to deliver cutting-edge education and guide postgraduate students in their research endeavors effectively.
A key feature of the partnership is student mobility, allowing students the opportunity to study at both institutions. This initiative broadens their cultural horizons and readies them to become innovative leaders in an interconnected world.
As part of the collaboration, a delegation from the University of Maine visited the HELP University Subang 2 campus and the HELP International School. The team was notably impressed by the vibrant culture, state-of-the-art facilities, and the innovative learning culture at the HELP International School as a potential pool of students for future recruitment into the University of Maine.
Professor Datuk Dr Paul Chan, Chancellor of HELP University, highlighted the significance of HELP’s mission and vision in its alliance with the University of Maine. “Our collaboration not only offers our students a remarkable opportunity for international exposure and a world-class education but also aligns with our commitment to helping individuals succeed and live a life of significance.”
By joining forces with the University of Maine, we create a compelling platform that goes beyond traditional academic boundaries. Our aim is to broaden the horizons of our students, empowering them to embrace diverse perspectives, cultivate entrepreneurial skills, and forge a path towards personal and professional growth. This partnership embodies our unwavering dedication to supporting individuals in their journey towards success and making a meaningful impact on society.
The University of Maine and HELP University envisage this partnership as the steppingstone for extending similar opportunities across the ASEAN and Asian regions. This shared vision is set to transform the global classroom concept and nurture the leaders of tomorrow.
