Making Malaysia the Centre for Sports Entrepreneurship

SHAH ALAM, 29 JUN 2022 – Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) through the Faculty of Sports Science and Recreation (FSR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HELP University with the objective to promote business and academic cooperation between both parties.

The ceremony was held at Canseleri Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, UiTM Shah Alam. UiTM was represented by the Assistant Vice Chancellor, Professor Dr. Shahriman Zainal Abidin, while HELP University by their Vice Chancellor and President, Datuk Professor Dr. Paul Chan Tuck Hoong. The MoU signing was witnessed by Associate Professor Dr Mohad Anizu Mohd Nor, the Dean of FSR and Professor Dr. Andy Liew Teik Kooi, Deputy Vice Chancellor of HELP University.

“I am optimistic that the Professional Certificate and Micro-Credentials in Sports Entrepreneurship will create opportunities of graduate employability for future joint and projects that benefit both parties,” said Professor Dr. Shahriman

The MoU between UiTM and HELP University will focus on several things including (i) micro credential and diploma courses in entrepreneurship coaching, (ii) incubating startups, (iii) scaling of existing Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in sports entrepreneurship, (iv) digitalization of entrepreneurship businesses, especially using e-commerce, (v) globalizing exports of MSMEs in this business, and (vi) preparation of IPOs for such entrepreneurships.

“This is a meaningful collaboration between two well known tertiary institutions that have shared values about helping Malaysian in entrepreneurship development. This will help to upskill and reskill sportsmen who have served the country. Sports entrepreneurship is experiencing a rapid growth, especially after The Winter Olympics from Sports Fashion to Sports Event Management the business opportunities are waiting,” said Datuk Paul Chan.

The collaboration mentioned will be prioritized and developed strategically. We welcome participation from the private sector and professionals in sports entrepreneurship.

HELP University is well-known for its entrepreneurial culture. It was started with RM25k in 1986.
