Yong Suet Mun
Yong Suet is from Selangor. She completed the University of Derby BA (Business Management) programme with HELP Academy, graduating with 1st Class Honours in 2018.
She had also completed the Foundation in Arts studies at HELP Academy from 2014-2015 under the HELP Distinction Scholarship Award.

Chan Pui Mun
Pui Mun is from Selangor. She completed the University of Derby BA (Accounting and Finance) programme with HELP Academy, graduating with 1st Class Honours in 2018.

Viviana Shield Mangaran
Viviana joined her course mates for the10-day study trip to the Uuniversity of Derby (UOD) campus, a graduation requirement of her 3+0 UOD BA (Business Management) (Hons) programme at HELP Academy, graduating in 2018 with 1st Class Honours.
Viviana studied at SMK Sri Utama, Petaling Jaya until her SPM in 2012. After completing her STPM at SMK, Petaling Jaya in 2014, she registered for the HELP Derby programme under HELP Bursary for all 3 years of study.
“I aim to be a managing director of a multinational organisation in the future and the Derby programme brings me a step closer to my goal. I mastered the ability to speak well and make presentations confidently as the course requires its students to deliver presentations regularly. The knowledge and guidance imparted by the lecturers are priceless; their case examples were always based on real scenarios from industry. I enjoyed myself thoroughly throughout my 3 years and would not trade it for anything. Thank you, HELP and thank you, University of Derby for this great experience”.
Vanessa Chua Li Yan
After attending the required graduation requirement of attending the Derby Summer School study trip to England, Vanessa Chua completed her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Accounting and Finance) (Hons) in 2018 at HELP Academy, graduating with 1st Class Honours in 2018.
Vanessa is from Kuala Lumpur, studied at SMK Tropicana and scored 8 As and 1 B for her SPM, then completed her A-Levels at HELP Academy in 2014/2015 under full scholarship. She registered for the 3 + 0 UOD programme conducted at HELP Academy, receiving a 30% partial scholarship for her UOD studies at HELP from 2014/15 to 2017/2018.
“I chose the Derby 3 + 0 programme at HELP because it gives me a UK degree that is internationally recognised. It opens up a good range of job opportunities as there would always be industry demand for people who are competent in finance. I learned what the requirements for profit maximisation and cost management are, which should surely help me achieve my ambition to makes lots of money and have a significant life for myself and for others I care for. My tutors were very approachable and helpful – they would patiently go through the learning materials with me until I have mastered them. It was a good experience that I will always treasure”.
Tong Zi Yan
Tong Zi Yan completed her 3 + 0 University of Derby (UOD) BA (Accounting and Finance) (Hons) programme conducted by UOD in collaboration with HELP Academy in 2018. After participating in the graduation requirement of a 10-day Summer School study trip to Derby, UK, Zi Yan graduated with 1st Class Honours in 2018.
Zi Yan studied at SMK Convent, Teluk Intan, and scored 11 As for her SPM in 2013.
She continued her studies with HELP University for the Foundation in Arts in 2014/2015, under the HELP Partial Scholarship and achieved a CGPA of 3.86, then progressed to the UOD BA (Accounting and Finance) (Hons) programme which she completed under HELP’s Merit Scholarship from 2015/2016 to 2017/2018.
“The Derby 3+0 BA (Hons) course at HELP is an affordable one, especially as it includes the flight and accommodation for the 10-day trip to the UK.. I liked the combination of different types of assessment instead of the more common exam- based assessment. Additionally, the compulsory internship, with focus on practical skills rather than book knowledge, enhanced students’ employability. But the best thing about studying at HELP are the lecturers. They are really considerate and helpful, often treating students as friends. This is indeed a great way to study and very conducive for many of us to achieve excellence”.
Shanice Cheng Sheue Ying
In 2018, Shanice Cheng successfully completed the University of Derby BA (Accounting and Finance) programme with First Class Honours, and graduated at HELP University’s Convocation in 2019. The Derby BA programme, offered at HELP Academy, includes a 10-day (flight and accommodation paid) study trip to Derby in the UK as a graduation requirement.
Shanice, from Selangor, studied at SMK Kepong and scored 4 As and 2 Bs for her SPM. After her A-Levels, she studied for her UOD programme from 2016 with HELP’s Distinction Partial Scholarship Award for year 1 of the course.
“The chance to get a UK degree and a “free” trip to the University of Derby was the main reason I had chosen to register for the programme. The study trip was an amazing and memorable experience. We (my HELP Academy Derby course mates) were in a real UK university environment with the opportunity to attend classes and participate in projects guided by Derby lecturers with a truly global perspective. I am now a proud graduate of a UK university, the University of Derby”.
Kelly Yap Pye Venn
After participating in the required study trip to Deby in Engalnd, Kelly Yap completed her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Accounting and Finance) (Hons) in 2018 at HELP Academy and graduated with 1st Class Honours.
Kelly, from Selangor, studied at SMK Sinar Bintang, Kepong, scoring 9 As and 1B for her SPM and was recipient of the HELP Distinction Scholarship Award in 2014 for her HELP University Foundation studies, and Merit Award in 2016 and 2017 for her HELP Academy UOD studies.
“I like calculations and numbers so that explains my interest in an accounting and finance degree. I also believe it would open many doors to the corporate world. I am aiming for a career in banking as I have always been interested in how banks act as legal financiers and how their operations are conducted in fulfilling this role for industry. The “free” trip to the Derby campus was important to me; it was not just a vacation but also an exposure to the rich culture and environment of Derby University. It was excellent in terms of the quality of the teaching and guidance given to me while I was studying. This programme and the international “Summer School” study trip has given me such memorable experiences, reminding me that there would be always be a lot of challenges out there for me to conquer using whatever knowledge and skills I can equip myself with”.
Matthew Yeoh Yang Ming
Pictured in front of the National Gallery at Trafalgar Square in London, during his 10-day Summer School study trip to Derby as part of the graduation requirement, Matthew Yeoh completed his University of Derby (UOD) BA (Business Management) degree in 2018 with the Department of Management Studies (DOMS) at HELP Academy, graduating with 1st Class Hons.
The UOD degree is accredited by the Chartered Management Institute, (CMI), UK; graduates will be dually qualified: course candidates shall be registered by CMI as affiliate members and upon graduation, shall receive the CMI Advanced Diploma in Management and Leadership.
“The UOD course comprises the learning of the various facets of management within the business sphere from business management to finance to marketing. Students are also guided to have a broad understanding of both the professional and soft skills needed to succeed in the business and corporate world. For students, my advice would be to balance “Study” vs “Play” well. With good balance, they would be able to perform satisfactorily in their studies. I also strongly encourage students in UOD programme to attend classes actively as such is vital for success in their coursework which makes up 100% of the final grades. One of the best things about the Derby course would be how interesting it has been designed, that it is not solely based on exams which can often cause high stress levels but is project-based which encourages flexible thinking and provides room for objectivity and creativity.”
Lim Jin Ru
Pictured at HELP University’s (HELP) 31st Convocation ceremony, Lim Jin Ru completed her 3+0 University of Derby (UOD) BA Accounting & Finance programme with the Dept of Management Studies (DOMS) at HELP Academy under HELP’s Merit Partial Scholarship for all 3 years of study degree, graduating with 1st Class Hons in 2018.
For being the best Accounting & Finance graduate, Jin Ru received the President’s Full Scholarship Award for postgraduate studies at HELP. She also received the Dean’s Award from UOD for achieving the highest academic excellence in Accounting and Finance studies.

Raja Nur Syazwina Raja Shaharudin Shah
Surrounded by her course mates in the picture taken during their 10-day study trip to the parent university in Derby, England, Raja Nur Syazwina completed the UOD 3+0 programme with the Department of Management Studies (DOMS) at HELP Academy, under HELP’s Distinction Partial Scholarship in 2016, and graduated with BA (Hons) (Business Management) 1st Class Hons in 2018. She was the top achiever in Business Management studies and was the Valedictorian at HELP University’s (HELP) 31st Convocation in 2019.

Raja Nur Syazwina studied at Sekolah Sri Utama, Kuala Lumpur and scored 8 As for her SPM, 2012. She then completed the American Degree Programme (ADP) in 2015 at HELP under HELP’s Distinction and Merit Partial Scholarship.
“If one is interested in Business Administration or Accounting and Finance, the UOD programme gives a good introduction to these disciplines during Year 1, and in-depth exposure to the relevant disciplines in the 2nd and 3rd years, providing graduates with good competence for a strong career start. I have always been interested in the Business Management field, (in preference to Accounting and Finance), so I chose to have broad based learning and the qualification, with exposure to many aspects of a business, such as human resource management, marketing, accounting, economics, finance, for my career”.
Lee Mei Ting
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) studies, Lee Mei Ting joined United Overseas Bank as management trainee, and she finds the experience, challenging and rewarding.
Commenced her UOD Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Finance degree programme at HELP Academy in 2016, completed it with excellent grades in 2019 to qualify for the award of 1st Class Honours.
Mei Ting schooled at SMK Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya, scoring 9 As and one B for her SPM in 2014 and earned the HELP Distinction Scholarship Award when she registered in 2015 with HELP University for her Foundation in Arts programme at the HELP Matriculation Centre. She views the Foundation in Arts as good, all rounded education rather than just an academic qualification. She completed her Foundation studies in 2016, with 2 HD 1s, 3 HD 2s, 3 D1 1s, 3 DI 2s and 2 CRs, achieving a CGPA of 3.48 to receive a Merit Partial Scholarship when she registered for the Derby programme.
Mei Ting paid tribute to the HELP Academy UOD lecturers, saying they were very supportive and helpful for guiding her in completing her assignments well and preparing for the examinations. She attributed the improvement in her communication skills to the lecturers and fellow students she engaged with in the UOD programme, adding that her favourite subjects were Accounting, Financial Strategy and Performance Management.
Chiew Yick San
After completion of her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) in International Business degree studies at the Department of Management Studies (DOMS), HELP Academy (HELP) in 2019, Chiew Yick San is occupied as in intern with a Singaporean Talent Recruitment firm based in Johor Bahru. She plans to develop her career in Singapore, aiming to be financially independent within twelve months. She was recipient of HELP’s Distinction and Merit Scholarship Awards for Year 1 and 2 respectively of the programme. She was in UOD Dean’s List, achieved excellent grades and is confirmed a 1st Class Honours graduand.
Mei Ting schooled at Convent, Kota Kinabalu, and completed her pre-university Foundation studies in Sabah in 2016, achieving good results that helped her earn the HELP scholarships.
Mei Ting said she scores better in exams/tests, but was excited at the challenge of the UOD assignment-based assessments and project paper as these consolidated her learning from developing her knowledge of business principles and practices, and communication and time management skills, competencies valued by industry and which are good grooming for career growth.
She thanks the HELP UOD lecturers for their caring and patient advice and guidance that helped her progress well in her studies. She developed close relationships with her DOMS course mates, helped by her role as Student Union Student Welfare Officer. She also described her UOD degree at HELP as value for money and the 10–day study trip to Derby, an unforgettable experience, and strongly recommends HELP to young individuals for their studies.
Ushvinder Kaur A/P Ranjit Singh
On completion of her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) degree delivered at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS) , Ushvinder was engaged by IBM in September 2019 as Accounting Analyst intern.
Schooled at SMK Convent Sentul, and scored 6 As and 2 Bs for her SPM, Ushvinder registered with HELP University for Foundation studies which she completed in 2014 under HELP’s Distinction Scholarship Award. She then registered with HELP Academy’s University of London (UOL) Dept for the UOL BSc in Accounting and Finance, progressed in the programme for 2 years before transferring in 2016 to DOMS to complete her degree studies with Derby, for which she received a partial course fee waiver. Ushvinder was in UOD’s Dean’s List in 2018, completed her studies in 2019 with excellent results to qualify for the award of BA in Accounting and Finance, with 1st Class Hons.
Her extracurricular activities included participation in KPMG’s international case study competition, UNESCO’s blood donation drive, peer mentoring, volunteer for helping Bosnian flood victims and other voluntary social activities.
She believes UOD’s wel-balanced, holistic assessment system of assignments, presentations and the final year 2-semester project paper, help develop one’s critical thinking skills and finds that the DOMS UOD lecturers provide students with an amazing support system. She also developed a great relationship with her course mates who were both competitive and motivating. The Derby 10-day study tour with welcoming and helpful encounters, was truly an eye-opening cultural and educational experience for her. Ushvinder’s testimony, “HELP has what it takes to provide students to lead them to success: good quality education” .
Emily completed her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) in Business Management studies from 2016 -2019 with a course fee waiver bursary from HELP, at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS) , obtaining excellent results, qualifying her for the conferment of the award of 1st Class Hons.
Emily is planning for a career in Public Relations, Communications and Marketing, and recently was engaged with IBM as an intern. She was previously Worldview Education Private Tutor, Administration, Sales and Marketing Operations Executive, and Accounts Assistant with Auto Bavaria. Emily studied at SMK Kiara Mas, Kuala Lumpur, and registered in 2015 with HELP University for the Foundation in Arts studies.
Emily views the UOD course assignments, case studies and other coursework-based assessment – that require research and industry knowledge and challenges, discipline, time management and interactive learning with guidance from DOMS lecturers – as good for self-development and developing life skills for career growth. Her extracurricular activites included participation in KPMG international Case Study Competition and in the 2018 Summer Korean Student Exchange programme for which she received a full scholarship.
She had decided on HELP for her studies mainly because of its good reputation and attributes her high achievement to the DOMS-UOD teaching and learning structure which also raised her consciousness of the demands of the growing competitive environment. She advises young students on the need to make a firm commitment and invest in time and energy for producing good coursework to achieve high grades.
Clarissa Ann Lum Wei Yien
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) studies, Clarissa was engaged as Sales and Marketing Intern in 2019 with Flexiroam, the leading global mobile virtual network operator offering travelers roaming in over 200 countries, with global partners that include Maxis, Telstra, Vodafone and Digi. She intends to build her career in digital marketing.
Clarissa completed her UOD BA (Hons) in Business Management degree in 2019 at the Department of Management Studies (DOMS) at HELP Academy, with excellent grades that qualify her for the award of 1st Class Honours. She was recipient of UOL’s Dean’s List award in 2018. She studied at SMK Convent Bukit Nanas, Kuala Lumpur, scoring 6 As + 2 Bs for SPM in 2014, and received the HELP Distinction Partial Scholarship in 2015 for her Foundation in Arts (FIA) studies at HELP University’s Matriculation Centre, after which she registered for the UOD programme for which she was awarded a HELP bursary.
Her parents believed that good UK education would be useful for her personal and career development. Clarissa views UOD’s assignment and project-based assessments challenging but beneficial for developing thinking and research skills, and building industry exposure and that this has helped her earn her 1st Class Hons. Clarissa found the DOMS UOD lecturers, knowledgeable, helpful and friendly, and passionate in guiding students, She values her course mates for the camaraderie and motivation they provided and very much appreciated the Derby study-trip experience. She readily recommends both the HELP Foundation and UOD programmes to young individuals who plan to further their education.
Yong Mei Wan
Mei Wan looks forward to building her career in terms of professional services and taxation advisory/consultancy roles in which she could apply the technical knowledge and skills garnered from her tertiary education to assist clients successfully in their business, or statutory reporting, needs.
Previously, she was part-time Accountant, with Quality Oracle Malaysia, 2019 and Accounting Intern with Deloitte’s, 2018 and with Quality Oracle Malaysia, 2017.
Mei Wan completed her UOD BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance degree in 2019 at the Department of Management Studies (DOMS) at HELP Academy for which she was awarded HELP’s bursary and scored excellent grades, that led to her receiving the award of 1st Class Honours.
She studied at SMK Sultan Abdul Samad, Petaling Jaya, scoring 5 As and 4 Bs for her SPM in 2014. She progressed to her Foundation in Arts studies in 2015 at HELP University’s Matriculation Centre, for which she received HELP’s partial scholarship and bursary.
Mei Wan enjoyed her 10-day study trip to Derby which is part of the requirement for the UOD programme at DOMS, that, beyond the interaction and learning with the host university and lecturers, gave her the opportunity to explore the tradition and culture of the English countryside at Derbyshire. She benefitted from the wider perspective of developmental and problem-based education under which she cultivated greater independent critical thinking, and a firm impression of right solutions that may neither be right nor wrong.
Tan Li Ying
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) studies, Li Ying joined the automotive retail industry as an Accounting Intern in September 2019. Exploring career options, she plans to advance to postgraduate studies at the right opportunity and has accepted the post of Executive Assistant in the Finance & Accounts Department of Berjaya Sompo Insurance in January 2020, that would strengthen her exposure to the insurance industry.
She completed her UOD BA in Accounting and Finance degree programme at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS) in 2019, with excellent grades to qualify for the award of 1st Class Hons. Li Ying studied at Kuen Cheng High School, scoring 6As + 4Bs for SPM in 2013, and completed her A-Levels in 2014 with MCKL.

Li Ying says that although she did not have any accounting background before joining the UOD degree programme, she completed her degree well mainly because of the quality of education provided by skillful DOMS lecturers who willingly supported the students, giving useful advice and equipping them with both hard and soft skills for their career. With such resources and support, she believes that, with effort and hard work, every student would be able to learn, grow and succeed.

Mohamed Alhan Ahmed
On completion of his University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) degree studies delivered at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Mohamed Alhan, from the Maldives, was engaged in September 2019 as Sales and Business Development Executive with Seguro Insurance Services, a leading Insurance broker in Insurance and Reinsurance.
Alhan Mohd’s previous industry exposure was when he was Brand Promoter with Aries Enterprises in 2016 and Market Research Analyst in Faleem, in the Maldives in 2014.
Alhan schooled at the Dharumavantha School in the Maldives, 2010 – 2012, for his Cambridge GCE & IGCSE O-Levesl in Business, scoring 6 HD, and winning First Place in O-Levels in the National Top 10 placing, thereafter, studied at the Centre for Higher Secondary Education in Male’ from 2013 to 2015, for his Pearson Edexcel GCE A’Level in Business, completing it with 1 HD, 3 Merits & 1 Pass.
He registered with HELP Academy DOMS for the UOD Bachelor of Arts in Business Management programme, completing it from 2016 to 2019. He was recipient of the Derby Dean’s List Award in 2018, and graduated in 2019 with 1st Class Honours.
Alhan is a Certified PADI Advance Open Water Diver with the Diver’s Lodge, Maldives (2016).
He wishes to thank all his DOMS lecturers’ efforts, and the motivation from his parents and friends for his achievements during his studies at DOMS. He also offers his advice to students, especially those in the UOD programmes: “Always try to create good relationships with other people and work diligently for what you want to achieve. It is very important to constantly try to get out of one’s comfort zone for improving oneself”.
Kimberly Yvonne Wong Leh Hua
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) degree studies delivered at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Kimberly joined KPMG Singapore for a 16-week audit internship with the Diversified Industrials & Infrastructure team. KPMG is a multinational professional services network, and one of the Big Four global accounting firms.
Kimberly had previously completed a two-month advisory internship with KPMG Malaysia in the People & Change team.
She schooled at SMK St Teresa in Kuching and scored 9 As and 1 B for SPM, taking Accounting Principles as an additional subject. Kimberly then registered with HELP University’s (HELP) Matriculation Centre (HMC) for her Foundation in Arts, 2015-2016, under HELP’s Distinction Scholarship and achieved a CGPA of 3.51.
She commenced her UOD Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance (BAAF) degree programme at DOMS in 2016, for which she received a bursary from HELP. She was also recipient of the KPMG ASEAN Scholarship for her first year of studies. Kimberly received Derby’s Dean’s List award for both her first and second year for outstanding results, and graduated in 2019 with 1st Class Honours.
During her undergraduate studies, she participated in several case study competitions and personal development programmes; notable achievements include being Global Finalist in the Maybank Go Ahead Challenge (MGAC) 2017, and Top 20 Performer in Axiata’s University Leadership Development Programme, 2018.
Kimberly was Corporate Relations Director for the Malaysian Chapter of the International Council of Malaysian Scholars & Associates during her second & third year of her BAAF.
On completion of his University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) degree studies delivered at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Hazim Haris returned to the Maldives and since September 2019, is engaged as corporate and legal affairs intern in the Central Administrative Department of the State Electric Company, the Maldives’ leading electricity provider. He is also engaged in the supervision of a family owned construction company, One Development.. Hazim had previous industry exposure as a Sales Associate Officer at Maldives Airports in 2015/2016.
He completed his Cambridge O levels and IGCSE at Dharumavantha School in Male’ in 2012 and schooled at the Center for Higher Secondary Education for his higher secondary education from 2013 to 2015, for his Pearson Edexcel Advanced Levels Certificate.
Hazim commenced his UOD BA (Hons) in Business Management program at HELP-DOMS in 2016. His stay in Malaysia far from home provided the opportunity for him to, work through challenges and experience the enriching exposure to a diverse culture and develop himself. He graduated with 1st Class Honours in 2019.
While building a career in the field of business, Hazim also finds time and energy developing his passion for music and art, honing his musical imagination with friends, and consummating his digital graphic art creativity as a freelance designer for marketing projects.
He provides advice to those starting out in their studies and career:
“Dream big. Do what you have to do to accomplish that dream, because if you put your mind to it, anything is possible. If you want to build a career, first you have to learn, at your university, at your work place and through your life’s personal experiences. Don’t try to start at the top. Live the experience and gradually climb your way”.
Teh Pooi Mun
Upon completion of her University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance degree studies at the HELP Academy’s (HELP) Department of Management Studies, (DOMS) , Pooi Mun is engaged as an Internal Audit Trainee intern with Crowe Malaysia, the country’s 5th largest accounting firm, serving more than 10,000 clients nationwide, and member of Crowe Global, a top 10 global accounting network, associated with over 167 international member firms operating from 650 offices.
Crowe Malaysia is registered with Malaysia’s Accounting Oversight Board (AOB) and with the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB) in the United States. Since 2007, it has been a top 4 accounting firm involved in the highest number of initial public offerings (IPOs).
Pooi Mun is from Kuala Lumpur and studied at SMK Seri Saujana at Bandar Baru Sri Petaling in Kuala Lumpur, scoring 7 As for her SPM in 2014. She commenced her Diploma in Accountancy programme in 2015 at HELP College of Arts and Technology (HELP CAT), with the award of a HELP CAT Merit Scholarship and achieved a Distinction grade for her Diploma in 2017.
She registered with HELP Academy DOMS in 2017 for the UOD Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance degree and was recipient of a bursary from HELP. Pooi Mun was recipient of the Derby Dean’s List award in 2018, and completed the BA course and graduated with 1st Class Honours in 2019.
Pooi Mun was a fundraising volunteer for PAWS Animal Welfare Society.
Yong Pui Yee
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) 3+0 Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Finance (BAAF) studies at HELP Academy Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Pui Yee was engaged as an audit intern with Cheng Co PLT, (formerly, Cheng & Co), a professional accountancy, audit and taxation services firm in K. Lumpur. She, previously, was engaged as a tax intern with YYC Advisors, K. Lumpur, a chartered accountants, tax specialists and business consultants group providing professional services (including head hunting and running a business school).
Pui Yee has plans to advance to postgraduate studies and/or international professional accounting qualifications in due course. She is also exploring opportunities for a good head start in her career.
She completed her school education at SMK Seri Saujana, Kuala Lumpur, and gained admission in 2015 into HELP College of Arts and Technology (HELP CAT) as a candidate for her Diploma in Accountancy (DIA), for which she was recipient of a HELP CAT Merit scholarship, and graduated with the DIA with Distinction in 2017.
After obtaining her DIA, Pui Yee registered for the UOD with DOMS. She values the cultural and networking enhancement from the flight and accommodation expense-paid 10-day study trip to Derby, a graduation requirement of the UOD programme. Pui Yee completed the BAAF in 2019, graduating with 1st Class Honours.
Pui Yee had been a volunteer with PAWS, the Animal Welfare Society.
Elaine Lim Chiew Yeng
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, (BAAF) degree at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies, (DOMS) , and with previous industry training as Accounts and Tax Intern, Elaine is Accounts and Tax Assistant with YYC Advisors, Chartered Accountants, professional tax specialists and business consultants in Kuala Lumpur.
She schooled at SMK Damansara Utama, Petaling Jaya, scoring 10 As + 1 B for her SPM in 2014, then registered in 2015 with HELP Matriculation Centre for the Foundation in Arts (FIA) programme, completing it in 2016. Elaine decided on FIA for because of the all-rounded education and because it offered studies in economics and accounting, subjects she liked.
The advantage of a UK degree qualification for self and career development appealed to her and she registered as a candidate for the 3+0 BAAF at DOMS. She liked the 10–day Derby study visit and was impressed with UOD’s excellent facilities. She and her course mates worked as a team to deliver project presentations. They also enjoyed visiting places of interest in the English countryside. The visit heightened her pride at being an associate of UOD. Elaine graduated in 2019 with her BAAF with 1st Class Hons.
Elaine received the HELP Distinction partial scholarship and bursary, respectively, for her Foundation and UOD studies. She had participated in an accounting competition during her course; although her team did not win, she cherished the valuable lesson on teamwork. Elaine feels that the UOD experience at HELP enhanced her in many ways, e.g., in developing critical thinking skills, and readily recommends friends and relations to study at HELP.
Chia Xiao Ching
After completing her University of Derby (UOD) 3+0 Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Accounting and Finance (BAAF) studies at HELP Academy (HELP) Department of Management Studies (DOMS) , Xiao Ching was engaged as an IT audit intern with KPMG, Petaling Jaya. KPMG is one of the Big Four of global network of accounting and auditing firms. Earlier, in 2017, she gained industry experience as GST accounting intern at Cheng & Co, Kuala Lumpur, an established one-stop professional centre providing a full range of professional accountancy, taxation and consultancy services.
She aims to be a professional accountant and a challenging and rewarding career that it promises, and is presently preparing for the ACCA examinations.
Xiao Ching completed her secondary school education at SMK Seri Saujana, Bandar Baru Seri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur, scoring 5 As and 4 Bs for her SPM in 2014. She then registered with HELP Collage of Arts and Technology (HELP CAT) for the Diploma in Accountancy (DIA), graduating in 2015 with a CGPA of 3.49. Xiao Ching was recipient of the HELP CAT bursary and merit partial Scholarship for her DIA studies.
She joined DOMS in 2017 for the UOD BAAF programme for which she was awarded a HELP bursary. In 2019, Xiao Ching graduated with the BAAF with 1st Class Honours. Xiao Ching described the pre-graduation 10-day study trip to Derby, as a valuable and memorable opportunity for students to interact/bond with each other and with Derby academics and partners, as they toured the campus and encountered the rich English culture and heritage.
In 2016, Xiao Ching was a fundraising volunteer for the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, (PAWS).
Lee Yen Kah
On completion of his University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance, (BAAF) degree studies, conducted wholly at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS), Lee Yen Kah joined PKF Malaysia as auditor. PKF is a member of PKF International, a global network of independent firms providing audit, accounting, tax, and business advisory services in 440 cities with associates in 150 countries, bound by a shared commitment to quality, integrity and clarity in today’s complex regulatory environment. He plans to qualify as a professional accountant in due course for enriching his career and life.
He completed his secondary school education at SMK Lok Yuk Likas, Kota Kinabalu in Sabah, scoring 4 As, 2 Bs and 2 cs for his SPM (Malaysian Certificate of Education), and progressed to obtain his pre-university A-levels qualification at a private college in Sabah, in 2015.
He registered with DOMS for the 3+0 UOD BAAF in 2016 and completed it in 2019, graduating with 1st Class Honours. Yen Kah says that appropriate effort and discipline are required for achieving such success but it is not a huge struggle, adding that he benefited from the assistance of DOMS lecturers and course mates throughout his studies. He also advises students that excellent academic achievement alone may not be an advantage for career development, saying that employers generally greatly value social and communication skills, and character or personality traits and attitudes, in terms of successful negotiation in the work environment and achieving performance goals.
He describes the pre-graduation Derby 10-day study trip as an awesome experience from the friendly interaction with the Derby academics and the memorable first-hand exposure to English culture and life.
Lee Seng Fung
After completing his 3+0 University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, (BAAF) degree studies at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS), and graduating in 2019 with 1st Class Hons, Lee Seng Fung joined Ernst & Young (EY) Malaysia, to start his career in professional accountancy. EY is the global network of one of the Big 4 largest international professional audit, assurance, taxation, management consulting, actuarial, corporate finance, and legal services to clients.
He had previously gained industry exposure through internship under required industrial training of the UOD course and also, voluntarily. With 9 exemptions out of ACCA’s 14 examination papers, he received from his UOD degree, Seng Fung is preparing to sit for the ACCA exams to qualify as a Chartered Certified Accountant in due course.
He completed his secondary school education at SMK Sri Saujana, Kuala Lumpur, scoring 4 A+s, 3 As and 2 Bs for his SPM in 2014. He commenced the Diploma in Accounting at HELP College of Arts and Technology (HELP CAT ) in 2015, under the HELP CAT Merit Partial Scholarship Award, completing it in 2016 with an excellent CGPA of 3.99, thereafter registered with DOMS in 2017 for the UOD programme, receiving a HELP bursary for his studies. Seng Fung says, with the right effort, obtaining a 1st Class Hons would not be difficult.
Seng Fung describes the pre-graduation 10-day Derby study trip as a great experience from the international exposure and the opportunity to embrace various cultures from interaction with the British parent university and students from other countries.
Leng Hui Yin
After completing her 3+0 University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance, (BAAF) degree studies at HELP Academy’s Department of Management Studies (DOMS), and graduating in 2019 with 1st Class Hons, Leng Hui Yin joined United Overseas Bank Ltd as intern in the personal financial services and wealth management departments.
At the same time, Hui Yin is considering the option of advancing to postgraduate studies and/or – in view of some exemptions she would have, from her UOD BAAF, for the examinations of professional accountancy bodies – obtaining a good professional accountancy qualification to equip her for a challenging and rewarding career in accounting and financial services in due course.
Previously Hui Yin had gained industry exposure as an intern in the bancassurance industry. She had also been employed as Accounts Assistant by Leapfrog Distribution, an established IT-based company, headquartered in Singapore, with worldwide research, design, development, manufacturing and product distribution of PC audio systems, personal audio, portable audio, audio accessories, PC peripherals, as well as professional gaming gear. Additionally, she was employed as Audit Assistant by S H Gan & Associates and as Tax Assistant by K C Chan & Associates.
She completed her primary and secondary school education at SJK(C) Chi Hwa and SMK Kepong Baru, Kuala Lumpur, scoring 5 As and 5 Bs for her SPM, (Malaysian Certificate of Education) in 2014. Before registering with HELP Academy in 2016, she had obtained her A-Levels in 2015 at a private college in Kuala Lumpur.
Since early 2020, Benjamin has been investing his resourcefulness and versatility, and competence and confidence in being a rewarding freelance solution provider in business consultancy /advisory in customer service, project management, and operations and methods.
Previously, in 2019, he was Recruitment Consultant in Kuala Lumpur (KL) with Agensi Pekerjaan Unitalent, providing clients and prospective candidates with support and advice in terms of employment requirements and opportunities. In 2018, he was recruitment consultant intern with Unitalent, managing clients’ recruitment process in media advertising, building networks and databases, and candidate selection. From 2016 to 2018, he was Administrator at a KL fitness centre, responsible for operations, customer service and procurement, and competed in the Strength Assembly Meet organized by the Malaysian Powerlifting Association.
In 2016, he registered for the 3+0 University of Derby (UOD) BA (Hons) (Business Management) programme, conducted at HELP Academy’s Dept of Management Studies, (DOMS), receiving HELP’s bursary for all 3 years of study. In 2017, UOD’s College of Business, Law and Social Sciences presented Benjamin with the Dean’s Award for outstanding academic achievement. In 2019, he graduated with 2nd Class Hons (1st Division), and in view of UK Chartered Management Institute’s (CMI)’s accreditation of the UOD programme, also received the CMI Level 5 Diploma in Management and Leadership (QCF). In 2014, he studied at HELP’s Matriculation Centre, obtaining his Foundation in Arts pre-university qualification in 2015. Benjamin studied at SMK Taman SEA, Petaling Jaya, obtaining his SPM in 2013.
He was an active DOMS student representative, managing student feedback and related issues. Benjamin was in the team for the strategic planning and execution of a fund-raising campaign for a children’s charity at Jinjang, KL, and for the DOMS Jinjang Utara Numeracy Project for underprivileged children, sponsored by, and in liaison with, Acts Global Networking (AGN), a non-profit organization, and wrote articles on the event for the media.
