Ari Aaron deCruz Gerald Anthony, our Second Year HELP University Mass Communication programme student with his Koi fish design for the 2019 Fuyooooh Competition. In life, there are many challenges. Be it mentally, physically or an emotional challenge, everyone faces such challenges at some point in their life. The same can be said about 19-year old, Ari Aaron deCruz, our HELP University’s Mass Communication programme Diploma student when he participated in the “Fuyooooh! Creative Challenge” competition in ATRIA Shopping Gallery, Petaling Jaya, on 19 December 2019.

The design competition was aimed at Malaysian students currently in any design course of study and to get the student teams to create, decorate, and change the look of any surface, space or location into something that can excite and astound the senses of the immediate viewer. During the proposal process of the design planning stage, Aaron’s teammates dropped out one after the other, and he was eventually the last man standing. Rather than give up and throw in the towel, Aaron was determined to persevere and gave this competition his all, and his efforts paid off as the owner of ATRIA Shopping Gallery was so delighted with his design that it would be made into a permanent design for life.
“Actually,” said Aaron, “It was part of an assignment. One of KB Colour staff was an ex-HELP staff, so he reached out to one of my lecturers, and they presented him with this competition. So, he gave us this assignment, basically to give our proposals, and after we gave our proposals, I was one of the shortlisted members. However, there were a few others who did not go through with it, but I was the only one from HELP that went through with it.”

Aaron chose the theme of Koi fish as part of his art installation because they move so freely and majestically that it brings peace to him. “Peace and tranquility”, said Aaron, “is all we need in the world.” After this competition, Aaron will continue on with his internship whereby he plans to continue with his degree in Mass Media at HELP University.

About the “Fuyooooh Creative Challenge:
The Fuyooooh! Creative Challenge is aimed at Malaysian students currently in any design course of study and to get the student teams to create, decorate, and change the look of any surface, space or location into something that can excite and astound the senses of the immediate viewer. The student teams would have to create a proposal for the organizing committee to select, whereby the team will be assigned a Solutions Leader to help supervise and guide the proposal to completion. Once that is done, the team would then need to craft a promotional and marketing campaign via traditional and social media means.
