HELP University’s 8th Talent Night, “Talent Lah! 2019”

KOTA DAMANSARA, Fri. – HELP University organised the 8th talent night competiton titled “Talent Lah! 2019” on the 22nd of March at Sunway Nexis, Kota Damansara. The talent show which saw a participation of 15 talented individuals from six private institutions of higher learning within the Klang Valley was spearheaded by the Public Relations students of HELP Matriculation Centre (HMC) and has been a signature event of the Public Relations students since its inception in 2009. Organised as a talent-based competition, Talent Lah! 2019 provides a platform for budding university students to hone their talents in an open competition.

Participants of the HMC Talent Lah! 2019 include students from high schools such as Havil International and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bandar Sri Damansara 1 and also from colleges like INTI, Taylor’s, Monash, UM, BSKL, HELP University and even some from private tutors. The competition was judged by celebrity judges, who include Hasnol, a pop artist, Mark O’Dea, a British television presenter and YouTuber, Nadhirah, an R&B singer, and Queenie, a dancer. The emcee of the night was Raj Mahal and there was a guest performance by Pele L., a local Malaysia artist.

“This event opens up the stage to young independent performers. I am grateful that it all went well and hope to see the performing arts industry in Malaysia appreciated deeply,” said Luqmanul Hakim, the programme manager of the Talent Lah! 2019 committee. “It is through such events that the Public Relations students gain an insight into the world of event management and the experience gained here is priceless.”

There were many fascinating and interesting performances, like dancing, singing, rapping and even magic tricks and illusions as the finalists performed their best to entertain the audience and judges. The winners of HMC Talent Lah! 2019 were Metaphor Concept, Afrina Nayli and Kita:Orang; who won RM850, RM 550 and RM350 worth of prizes for First, Second and Third place respectively. There’s also a Fourth-place prize, which was won by YiHng, for “Most Audience Support”.

“This event is an eye-opener for the PR students to experience what being on a PR team will be like in the future,” said Mr. Dhanesh Balakrishnan, Dean of The Faculty of University Foundation Studies. “By giving them a practical way to use the theories and lessons they have learned in the classroom,, it could help them make a more informed decision later in life. The talent show would also let them have experiences and memories that will help shape them as time passes.”

HMC Talent Lah! 2019 was conceived on the 23rd of January. The student committee of HMC Talent Lah! 2019, were required to perform a list of activities, which includes research, strategic planning and sponsorships requests to meet the event goals. Sponsors of HMC Talent Lah! 2019 include TRI I Concept Sdn. Bhd., TeleSupply, Permata Baru Building Sdn. Bhd., GASB Project Sdn. Bhd., Alp Asia (M) Sdn. Bhd., Krispy Kreme, POIS, MTS.
