Dean's Message

Choosing the right programme that comes with the appropriate facilities and ambience for study is any parent’s priority. Thus, the question arises, why HELP for Law?

Allow us to introduce you to the philosophy of the Faculty. HELP University has been enjoying the privilege of being the first private university to introduce the UK Degree Transfer Programme (Law) which has been recognised by prestigious and reputable universities in the UK. To date, we have as our partners Cardiff University, University of the West of England, Bristol, Aberystwyth University, University of Liverpool, University of Manchester, University of Sheffield, Northumbria University, University of Hertfordshire and the University of Leeds and The School of Oriental & African Studies, London (SOAS). The programme has also received full accreditation from the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

2009 also saw the Department expand by introducing its own Bachelor of Laws Honours degree. The Bachelor of Laws Honours degree has received full accreditation from the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and received recognition from Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board (MLPQB) in June 2019.

The Faculty assures you of quality teaching as we have teaching faculty who are experienced, dedicated and qualified, some of whom were former practitioners who have turned to full time academic life. We believe that great careers are built on firm foundations. Our approach is holistic. We strive to listen, to learn, and to help students define their dreams and achieve their aspirations.

HELP University in Collaboration with SOAS on a 1+2 UK Degree Transfer Programme for Law

The School of Oriental & African Studies, London (SOAS) is pleased to offer direct entry into Year 2 of the SOAS LLB (Bachelor of Law) programme to students of HELP University (Malaysia) who have successfully completed one year of study at HELP through the UK Degree Transfer Programme in Law.

Students of HELP University who have completed one year of the UK Degree Transfer Programme in Law, in addition to meeting all SOAS and School of Law admissions criteria and English-language proficiency requirements, may enter the SOAS LLB in Year 2 to undertake Year 2 and Year 3 of the programme. Students from HELP University who are on this programme are also eligible to receive a dedicated scholarship to support tuition costs while at SOAS. Students participating on this programme will then be eligible to graduate with a SOAS LLB degree after Year 3.

After completing the SOAS LLB, students who wish to become practising lawyers will only have to read for either the UK Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) to gain admission into the English Bar, or pursue the Malaysian Legal Profession Qualifying Board’s Certificate in Legal Practice examination.

In Year 2 and Year 3 of the SOAS LLB programme, students will choose from a wide array of optional courses that draw on the unique research expertise of our staff. The emphasis we place on choice, and research-led teaching, will allow our students to pursue a number of distinct specialisms as their degree progresses, but whichever path they choose to focus on the courses they study will all be imbued with that distinctive SOAS dimension, that stresses critical engagement and understanding of the role of law in the world at large.

Students of the UK Degree Transfer Programme in Law at HELP University may express interest in participating in this Programme by contacting Ms Vasantha Moorthy, Dean of the Faculty of Law & Government at HELP University at vasanp@help.edu.my, or Nick Butler, Global Partnerships manager at SOAS, at nb27@soas.ac.uk
